About Us
We met a little over three years ago at work over Skype. (Yes, we're tech nerds.) Allie was sure that Nick must dislike her; she'd never met anyone who was as gruff over the phone and the accent, while intriguing, only made his tone sharper when he was annoyed. Nick was convinced that in addition to her other eccentricities, Allie had blue hair because that's what it looked like on her low-res Skype photo. Nevertheless, he decided that despite the blue hair, Allie was still cute enough that it was worth recruiting co-workers to find out whether she had a boyfriend. Sure, Nick lived 4000 miles away from her, but he figured you never know.
A month later when we met in person and confirmed there was no dislike or blue hair, we became great friends. After a year and a half of friendship, we began dating in late 2011 and got engaged in June 2012. Starting in 2013, we got an apartment in Barcelona, splitting our time between there and Andorra, with frequent trips back to the U.S.
About Nick
Nick was born in England and grew up in Gloucestershire, spending his summers in the Lake District. Active from a young age, he spent his free time walking in the mountains, rock climbing and mountain biking.
After graduating from Sheffield, he spent two years in London, then jumped out of the rat race and moved to Andalucia, Spain in 2005. After a few years there, he moved to Andorra where he enjoyed playing in its dramatic mountains on his snowboard or in his trail shoes. Starting in 2010, he took every excuse to spend more time in NYC, where he discovered a new love of restaurants and of making Allie laugh.
Professionally, Nick specializes in growing and managing large distributed engineering teams. Since January, he's been busy building a Barcelona development team for the US-based company he and Allie consult for.
About Allie
Allie was born and raised in New Jersey, in an area roughly 40 minutes from New York City. As a child she loved theatre and writing and basically any activity that involved imagining new worlds and coming up with her own rules for them. After graduating from film school at Northwestern, she moved to NYC and took a left turn into Finance, where she spent three years, before jumping off into the world of ghostwriting and start ups. (No, it wasn’t a very linear trajectory.)
She moved back to NYC in the fall of 2009 after spending two years in San Francisco, and met Nick there that spring. Since being with Nick, she's discovered she loves traveling even more than she thought she did and being in the mountains more than she ever expected to.
